Lorena juniors Elizabeth Aviles and Kristine Forgacova received regional recognition in the Scholastic Art and Writing contest that included student entries from Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Aviles received a Silver Key Award for her poem “Tortillas.” Only 7-10% of students who enter the contest receive this award.

Forgacova received Honorable Mention for her short story “Red Reprise.” Just 15% of student entries earn this recognition. 

The Scholastic Art and Writing Contest has been celebrating young artists and writers since the 1920’s.
