Band members going to State Contest

Three Lorena High School band members will be participating in the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Clarinetist Kaylie Schroeder, Percussionist Gabriana Diaz, and Percussionist Charlotte Schrader all received first division ratings at the Regional Solo and Ensemble contest to earn a spot in the State Contest. “I was so excited,” said Schrader. “Honestly I didn’t know if I would make it or not, but having another opportunity to play and get to showcase my skills is really exciting to me.”

The State Solo and Ensemble Contest allows students to show their skill with an instrument in a more individual setting. Getting to this point is a huge accomplishment, but there is still more work ahead as this trio prepares for the state competition that will be held in late May at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville. “Rehearsing multiple hours,” said Schroeder. “The piece I played has five movements, and I only memorized three of them. I am going to try to add on the other two movements to that piece as well, so it’s going to require hours of my work because those pieces were the longer ones from the piece I chose to play.”

It’s an exciting time for the Leopard band to have three members going to the State Solo and Ensemble Contest where they will have the chance to represent Lorena on a statewide stage. “It makes me really happy that I can show my Leopard pride in some way,” said Diaz. She also added what Leopard pride means to her. “Being happy to come to this school and being proud that I do go here.”

Congratulations to  Kaylie Schroeder, Gabriana Diaz, and Charlotte Schrader and good luck at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest!
