For the first time in over a decade the Lorena High School choir program has five students that have qualified for the State Solo and Ensemble contest. Rylee Dubois, Riley Fugitt, Kase Coats, Dylan Colbert, and Yelena Flentge earned the opportunity to compete in the State competition after earning a score of superior rating at the regional contest. The strong showing by these Lorena students has helped bring attention to the choir program. “To be given that opportunity to show off Lorena, to finally put the choir back into the light is really awesome,” said Dubois. “I’ve been in this class for a very long time, and there are some people that are still surprised to find out that we have a choir, so I’m just glad that the work paid off.”
Advancing to the state contest may have been an individual accomplishment, but this group came together to help each other out. “It’s a lot of support. If somebody is confused on a part we all kind of chip in and help,” said Colbert. “There’s almost no individuality here. We’re all kind of one group. It’s all really intertwined, everybody kind of helps everybody.”
Congratulations to Rylee Dubois, Riley Fugitt, Kase Coats, Dylan Colbert, and Yelena Flentge and good luck at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest!
