Lorena High school produced four district champions, and four first place teams at the District 23-4A UIL Academic contest. The LHS team finished third overall in the district contest with a total of 334 points.

 

The calculator team, accounting team, computer science team, and social studies team all finished in first place earning district championships, and qualifying for the Regional Meet. Dacey Provence won second place in the calculator contest and qualified for the Regional Meet as an individual. Gabi Diaz earned a spot in the accounting individual contest with a second place finish. Sebastian Peevey, Andrew Collier, and Jake Strowger swept the top three spots in computer science and qualified for the individual contest at the Regional Meet. Brenton Talamantez will be a part of the social studies Regional Meet individual contest after finishing in third place at the District Meet.

 

Four additional students qualified for the Regional Meet as individuals in a variety of events.

Sam Johnson won second place in Prose Interpretation to advance. Vance Bach won the individual science contest to advance. He was also the top scorer in biology. Jacob Lail won first place in persuasive speaking, and second place in ready writing to move on to regionals. Addy Nuner claimed the top spot in headline writing to qualify for regionals.

 

The UIL Academic Regional Meet will be held April 25-26 at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
